About Me
I currently work as Behaviour for Learning Manager at a Secondary School in Northampton. I have 1 member of staff but need at least 4. We run small group sessions of between 2 and 6 young people covering anything from Confidence and Self Esteem to Alcohol abuse, Keeping Safe and Self Harm. We are very busy and getting busier. My previous experience was teaching in the education department of a Secure Unit for Young Offenders. This was very rewarding and gave me the experience of working alongside some of the most volatile young people you could imagine. Full contact restraints were very frequent and the risk of injury was high. I worked there for 7 years and I would have to say that you needed to be consistent with your actions by this I mean rewards and consequences and build good strong relationships to manage behaviour efficiently.
I love my work and do not call it a job it is a passion and that is why I am currently broke. Sometimes I wish I were in it for the money but how ever much you are paid it is never the same as the look or the feeling you get when the penny drops and you see a young person start to succeed. That's why we do this kind of work, just one young person makes a change and it cancels out the million kicks in the teeth that preceded it.
Keep up the good work and I hope we can all share our knowledge and experiences to make schools a happier place to be for all young people.
